Delicious nibbles of erotica!

Or should that be the entree before the main course!  Either way I’m enjoying writing them. At around twenty-thousand words, or sixty to seventy pages, short stories can be read in one evening – or so I’m told by someone who admitted they couldn’t put Perfect Stranger down.

Perhaps even more fun, they allow me to play on the periphery of other genres, bringing hot sex scenes to what might be described more as a thriller in Perfect Stranger.  Or chick lit, with Forsaking All Others (coming soon).  And then there’s historical drama in The House Of Ill Repute (available later in 2014).

There’s another reason for writing shorter stories.  Whilst I love the look and feel of a published novel – and even more, that longed for moment when you turn it over to read the back cover, and know you have to read this book – we are living increasingly busy lives.  We communicate in message-bites on Twitter and Facebook.  And use text rather than call.  So, rather than trying to find time at the end of a long day for a few more pages of a lengthy novel, we are downloading more short stories, and perhaps even experimenting with new genres and sampling new voices.

Exciting times to be an author!

Blog Tour for Desires

Running from 28 March through to 18 April, Desires will feature on 24 web-blogs, generating fifteen reviews, and a further thirteen for Choices and Secrets.

I read somewhere that EL James (50 Shades) told a reporter she never read reviews for her books.  How is that possible!  It’s like touching the tip of your tongue to a broken tooth – good or bad, you have to do it!  I love reading opinions of my work, I really do.  Even the negative, which luckily I haven’t had too much of.  (Although there was a shocker on Amazon a year or so ago, for Choices.  Two lines that made you wonder if the person had actually read the book, or was just sounding off about erotica in general!)

Thankfully, most of the reviews I have received have been thoughtful and analytical, and while I’ve proudly relished the four and five star ratings – and who wouldn’t – it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the couple of three star reviews received for Choices.

Writing is a personal journey, and while no book – or work of art or music – will ever please everyone, there’s something immensely satisfying in discovering your stories have a solid appeal, and that the characters you have conceived and nurtured have found their way into the hearts of others.

And so I will hold my breath for the next few weeks, and keep my fingers tightly crossed!  Oh, and have the champagne chilling, just in case!
